A Partnership Built on Passion and Commitment

Mr. Tawan Davis, CEO and founding partner of The Steinbridge Group, brings his passion for addressing income inequality and his commitment to HBCUs to this new course. With a rich background in real estate investment and development, Davis is uniquely positioned to mentor and guide the next generation of entrepreneurs. His involvement ensures that students will receive insights and knowledge from an industry leader who understands the challenges and opportunities in today’s business landscape.

On Set: A Unique Learning Experience

Recently, during the filming of the course, students Sanaa Rowser from Spelman College and Jivon K. Cole from Clark Atlanta University, along with faculty member Dr. Adoo from Morris Brown College, had the opportunity to engage in a roundtable discussion with Mr. Davis led by PROPEL Center President Dr. Lisa Herring.

Their reflections on this experience highlight the profound impact of this unique educational opportunity.

Student Reflections: Sanaa Rowser (Spelman College)

“As a journalist, storyteller, and aspiring media personality, my experience on set was absolutely surreal. Production in itself is art–the art of storytelling. Having an opportunity to be in the midst of innovation and creation clarified so much for me as it pertains to setting my sights on a particular career field. The conversation with Dr. Herring, Tawan Davis, and Dr. Adoo was more about the character and mindset of becoming an entrepreneur rather than the outcome of being a business owner–which is what every young person needs to hear given the quick-spirited climate of today’s entrepreneurial culture.

There is a process associated with every successful endeavor which not only builds stamina within the field of entrepreneurship, but it moreover instills the right heart posture to foster a legacy of wealth.

I expected to leave this luncheon physically full but to my surprise, I was more satiated by the enriching conversation and the joy of living an answered prayer. There has honestly been so much anxiety and uncertainty about what life after college will be like, but this opportunity was such a soothing reminder to stay the course because things are aligning in favor of my purpose.

I am so fortunate to be a part of a network that not only values the voices of our HBCU students but makes every effort to amplify them. Thank you all for offering me a seat at the table.”

Student Reflections: Jivon K. Cole (Clark Atlanta University)

“My time on set with the PROPEL team and Tawan Davis was an incredible learning experience. I gained valuable insights into entrepreneurship and business expansion, which are crucial for my growth. The opportunity to network with individuals from various backgrounds was eye-opening, as it showed me that despite our different paths, we share common goals and aspirations.

Being surrounded by so many talented creatives was an amazing opportunity. The energy on set was infectious, and it was amazing to see how everyone’s creativity fueled each other. This collaborative atmosphere sparked new ideas and underscored the importance of community and shared vision in achieving success. The experience was both fulfilling and inspiring, leaving me with an even bigger sense of purpose and motivation.”

In-Depth Conversations with PROPEL Center Leaders

Mr. Davis also sat down with Dr. Camesha Whittaker, PROPEL Center's Chief Learning and Innovation Officer, and Dr. Carl Moore, Executive Fellow, for in-depth one-on-one conversations about the future of HBCUs and where we go from here. Their discussions delved into the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for HBCUs and how innovative educational programs like those offered by the PROPEL Center can drive significant progress.
